if so how do you do it and what do you use?

 

I used 303 Aerospace Cleaner, for degreasing, pretty harmless to environment & body.

Finally used ArmorAll spray for shine.

Turn your car on and let it warm up, then liberally spray degreaser on your engine. Wash off with a hose and let your car idle until its dry under the hood. Pretty much any degreaser will work. If you have an aftermarket intake i wouldnt suggest doing this, id roll up your sleeves and go at it with some paper towels.

 

so its okay to spray the entire engine and then hose the whole engine down without having anything in the engine get messed up?

 

Yeah, it's ok to hose it... I mean, dont like pressure wash it or anything... but yeah, spray on a degreaser (I use a citrus based one), let it sit for a minute, and hose it off. I dress it with an interior dressing after it's dry.

yea headhsok thats pretty good. I use some carb cleaner or brake parts cleaner to clean my engine. Also like WD40 or organde clean will work. Or purple power (i think thats the name)
My engine in my mustang looked liek that. It easy to keep it to look like that but if it doesnt when u get its hard to get it to start looking like that.

 

Nope, my engine was effin filthy when I got the car... plus I drove it for a whole winter (I bought my car at the beginning of winter).

But yeah, somebody mentioned simple green, that'd be perfect -- it's good stuff.

Something I forgot to mention, two VERY important things (well, one more important than the other)

1. You're SOAKING the engine in chosen cleaner, so be sure to spray off your fenders and front bumper as you're doing it -- letting a heavy degreaser sit for any amount of time on your paint is BAD... so yeah, keep hosing the affected paint -- then spraying degreaser, then hosing paint, and so on... just so you dont let it sit on your paint. Also, if you live in close proximity to other cars, don't do this on a windy day... or the degreaser will be misted to other cars, and possibly cause slight damage -- although very little would make it onto other cars, it wouldnt be getting rinsed off for hours (though likely days).

2. THe other less important thing is to do this BEFORE washing your car. Haha, it's not a big deal if you dont... but I remember washing/polishing/'waxing' my car... then slapping my forehead when I realized I forgot to do the engine bay... I think it was the day I took those pics actually! You make quite a mess of the car, so yeah... self explanitory. I just rewashed it.

Oh, and something else -- the cloth noise reduction thing that is on the underside of our hoods... you can spray it with degreaser, and hose it down as well... but a word of caution, it was never meant to be so heavy... so the clips can come undone. DO NOT slam the hood closed with that thing even remotely wet, or the force will likely tear the clips out. ... This appears to be more an issue on b6's... as I washed my dads engine bay and the damn thing's clips are USELESS
