Winding noise while car is moving
I have an 2002 A4 1.8T and I'm hearing a winding noise when the car is moving. It's coming from the front (maybe engine) and seems isolated to the passenger side. Has anyone else experienced this and can you tell me what it might be?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Does it have something to do with your fan? I hear a similar noise coming from the passenger side on my 01 A6 2.8
when i turn off the heat/ac (i usually have it set to auto) the noise stops.....
if its not that....i dont know what you're talking about, but has anyone else heard this noise before coming from the fan on the passenger side?

No, doesn't sound like the fan. I was wondering if someone would suggest this, but could it be the timing belt? I've seen a few posts about them on here, but no one really describes this winding noise that I'm hearing. It's definitely coming from under the hood someplace.
I have the same problem but only happens when car is cold and moves under 30 MPH. The strange "wind noise" will disapper after 5 - 10 minutes of driving. It comes from driver side of the car. I'll have the dealer to check it up when I'm doing the 15000 miles service.
Jestnomen, It's actually an automatic, so I haven't tried the neutral thing before. I asked if it could be the timing belt, because as I increase speed, it sounds like something being wound up.
