Default Window Motors

My passenger side front window will start to roll up just fine, but when it gets about half way it just stops and rolls itself back down. . . the only way to get it all the way up is to pull it and hold the button

2 questions

1-someone had told me that you cant just replace a window motor on the front doors?
2-does this even sound like a motor problem becasue it works fine until half way up?

such a stupid ******* problem

If you hear a strange noise when the window is rolling up your window regulator could be going out which is causing the pinch pertection to activate keeping it from going up all the way,
or you had the battery dis-connected and forgot to perform the basic settings for the window motor.
Roll the window all the way up and hold the window button for a second, then all the way down and hold the button for a second, then all the way back up again and the motor should have memorized the position.

Yep regulators commonly go out on all audi's. On a B5 its riveted in and the door adjustment is hard to get right after the window frame is taken out of the door so if you don't know what your doing don't try it yourself. I just replaced two on my B5.

i have the same problem and i found out that it was cause by a broken green clip. this clip holds the window in place for it to balance while going up. i say you should open your door and see if thats the case. it's a cheap replace, will cost you $7-10.
