Default Winter Tire Help

hey Guys..

2000 a4 quattro... my rear passenger tire is completely bald almost to the point that a steel thread can be seen, guessing that i need an alignment... here's my question... i'm from toronto, so the weather is just getting into wet driving, still a good couple of weeks without snow.. should i go put on the winter tires or would i be just ruining them and which ones? read over a few threads, prolly thinking Blizzaks or those other swedish ones...

anyone in GTA know where i can grab some tires for a decent cost? or maybe a good place to take my car to for an alignment... ???

Thanks...

cheers

Roman

Durham Tire in Oshawa. I purchased a set of Cooper winters for under $400 installed!

They work great in the snow and wet weather for my '00 A4 1.8TQ.

I don't know if it'll get you anything but tell them the guy with the blue Audi told you to drop by. Their a small shop but do great work.

I have blizzaks on a set of 17's but have not used them yet. Actually my A4 is pretty new for me yet. My summer tires are shot as well. I live in Minnesota, and usually we don't have snow that sticks untill the end of November. The plan is to put them as when it get's well below freezing. If I get cought in snow with these tires, I better hope the Quattro is very good. Haha.

I'll be giving my $.02 after I run the new blizzaks later this year.

I live in Ottawa... its always either icy or slushy out from Dec-March.

I just bought a set of Nokian Hakka 2s on Headshok2002's recommendation and many google searches. Actually I found a lot of posts in Toronto car club forums from people who swear by these tires. I paid $1k CAD for tires, rims, install and balanced. I am not sure thats the best price I could have gotten, but my family has a reputation with this tire place.

EDIT - Nokian are Finnish I think.

ya thats what i've been hearing about the nokians, that they're pretty good winter tires, prolly the best... since my pockets aren't that deep at the moment b/c of other purchases, i'll prolly call around and look for those blizzaks... anyone know off hand how much an alignment will cost on a quattro b5?

what size tire would u guys recommend with 16 stock wheels?

My new tires just came in yesterday

I did ALOT of research in tires and i settled on the Dunlop Winter Sport M3. They are a high performance winter tire, more on the snow side but just as high ratings in dry and wet traction and wear. I was switching back and forth between the Pirelli P Zero Nero M&S and the Dunlop M3, and decided on the dunlop for it's snow prowl.

all you need to do is go to www.tirerack.com and you can compare all the tires you're thinking of side by side in every aspect including price. The Blizzak's really aren't that great, at least they didn't score even near the M3's or the Nero's.

From what I was reading... Blizzaks wear really quickly.

I am going to be running 195/65/15 on steels - tires on my car now are 205/55/16.
