Hi first post here.

Got a 1995 2.6 A4 quattro which has started making a fairly loud clunking noise from the middle of the car (Under handbrake area) which increases with mild acceleration / load.

Dip the clutch and it goes away and if you are going along at a set speed it disappears.

Any ideas?! Starting to worry that its something majorly wrong with the 4wd system.

 

I have a very similar noise that just started the other day. To me it sounds more like it is coming from the driver wheel well but its hard to hear since it only clunks under load. I know I have some loose tie rod ends that I plan to address in due time, but I don't know if tie rods would be a source for this noise :S
