So I found a FMIC that I can get a good deal on, but the dimensions of the core are only 17x5x3.5" (total length 22"). Would this be big enough to be an improvement over the SMIC? Also, would it be small enough that I wouldn't have to cut the bumper to mount it? Another option is one that is 21x5.5x2.5" (total length 28"). Would that be too big to fit behind the bumper w/out cutting? Thanks in advance for any help

 

yes it will be better, yes you will have to hack the hell out of the bumper to fit a 3.5 inch core behind it

 

Ah ok so its basically the depth of the core that makes the biggest difference?

 

yea, i think up to a 7" tall core should fit without cutting rebar.. im not sure about the length

ideal fit would probably be 27 x 6 x 2.5

 

yah i got a 28x7x2.5 and had minimal trimming on the front bumper. Also, by it being 7" tall it just barely fit under the rebar....almost like it was meant to be!

IM TOTALLY KIDDING... but i thought of that because of those stupid intakes that they make for hondas that look like a fmic but its really a cold air intake...

Ok so I picked out the intercooler I want, the only prob now is piping. No one seems to sell just the piping for the A4 (like the pre-bent piping that comes with an intercooler kit from APR or someone)

 

I think a chip then a front mount are going to be my first mods. FMIC's kill two birds with one stone...performance and cosmetic. I had a front mount on my 96' talon but it was too low and my friend cracked it open on a curb. [sm=boosign.gif]

 

^ I am having the same problem. I am going to go to a muffler shop and have them bend some pipe for me.

on ebay look for CXRacing, he is a good guy to work with. He sells prebent piping for our cars in black or chrome with couplers. Its about $75 with shipping. Has all the pieces you need to build. You can also pick what color couplers you want, just shoot him a email
