Default wow, just unbeleivable

I installed a K04 10 months ago when my K03 died and its been 22,000km and I have a loud turbo whine. My turbo started to whine halfway through my 8 hour trip I just made when I got on it to pass a semi. The car is boosting normally like it always has (17 and 25vac) but the turbo whines like a dentist drill. Could it be something else but a turbo on its way out?

I've searched and I think i might be on the market for a new turbo followed by a new car.

Note: The spool seems a bit quicker than it used to. I finished the rest of my trip (400km) without any engine issues just the damn whine when i got on it.) Also, no codes.

Specs: 01 A4 1.8T chipped along w/ a K04 and a forge 007. 163,000km total but only 22,000 on this turbo.

Thanks,
Mike

make sure your intake didnt come apart. maybe it did and the louder noise is simply the turbo spooling normally

How sure are you its the turbo? You didn't post much about how you came to this conclusion, is there anyway it could be a fan or something hitting your fan and being noisy.

Assuming that it was investigated a bit more than I am giving you credit for then I would go with the earlier mentioned, did something come apart causing it to be louder.

Well the reason I say its the turbo is because it only happens under boost. I drove 500k of hwy and I would only hear that under boost. Reason why I know its a turbo noise is because I blew my K03 10 months ago.

I'm really hoping its something to do with the dv or the wastegate or something more simple than needing yet another turbo.

I've had it with this car, moneypitt! Going to get it checked after work ill keep you guys in the scoop.

Thanks,
Mike

good luck with that, i had my shitty little ko3s blow after owning the car for less then a month, its not a good feeling. In this this case its hard to say it is the turbo beucase when the turbo is starting to die it doesent hold its booost very well. when my first one died it would drop from 18psi to under 10 by the time 5k came around

ok, well i got the turbo inlet hose pulled off and took a look at it with a mirror... I have a bent wing in the turbine... thats what is causing the whine..

Now im wondering if its just gonna just wear itself out and stop whinning after a while or if its gonna break off and go into my engine and cause severe damage?

How could it have gotten bent is another question I would be asking, and what happened to whatever bent it. If you just had it replaced something did not get torqued down properly or something is missing and went through.
