is it normal to hear a ticking sound coming from the ignition control module above the air filter housing on a 1997 a4 1.8t??

Yes.. That means its working.
and its not the icm, its that breather valve thingy.

Sounds like you have an old fashion tme bomb... its ok dont worrie about it.... only when it stop ticking maybe you should worrie =P
