Default Yay! My car has another ****-up

So I'm driving along with the radio on and I notice the driver's side door speakers are totally silent. It's a 98 2.8 w/ the delta Bose system. The front doors have a component speaker and a tweeter. At any rate, the other door and rear speakers are fine. I took off the door panel to check them out, but it looks like they are wired up fine.

There's this site, carstereohelp.com, that has info on the Bose system in Audis. Sounds like there could be some channels out in that amp that's back in the trunk. Nice. Anyone else ever had this happen? Anyone ever heard of the guys at carstereohelp.com? Apparently they're in Florida. Anyway if I can't figure it out it looks like I'll be sending them my amp... should just gut the whole audio system and start fresh but I don't have that kind of cash right now....

Any advice is appreciated.

Doh!

When you're dealin with that Bose system there isn't anything good that can come from it..that is unless you think an empty pocket book is a good thing. I recently had to drop $155 big ones on a new speaker for my rear deck. One damn speaker! And I had to have a friend order it from his local audi shop cuz the one where I live wanted $262 for the damn thing[:@]! That's not including install. The problem is Bose has a strangle hold on their products..specially car audio. You can't find that crap anywhere! If I were you...I'd probably hold out and drive around with a crappy system for a little while then rip the entire Bose system out and replace it. I woulda done the same thing but I had the $155 to cover it and I'm to lazy and impatient to wait(can't take my own damn advice...argh!).

Good luck with it! Lemme know how that audio place is in Florida. Oh, and if you do rip your stereo out...don't just toss it, you could probably make some good money by pawning the pieces.

Yeah... that's probably what I'll do... just hold out and replace everything. I called that place but it looks like the hurricane did a number on them, not even answering the phone right now.

you can buy an amp on ebay. Those things are a dime a dozen. Probably only go for around 20 bucks.

Fellas, I'm new to Audis but been around car audio for a while. Once you start to experience problems with the Blows (Bose) system, you are better off just saving some money and getting rid of it. There's been several post over on the Car Audio forums on the web about keeping the factory HU and just running different amps and speakers. I'm currently holding out myself to swap all the speakers out and add 2 small subs to just have some decent tunes. If I find out some more info on that, I will post it..

Believe me man, that's what I want to do... But to replace 6 speakers, two tweeters, a head unit and an amp is currently out of my price range (plus I want to add a sub or two)... probably cost about $800 minimum. I think I'm gonna take up brrman and pick up his amp and swap 'em out - If I can get all the speakers working I'll be happy. The bose system doesn't have a lot of power, but it sounds reasonably clean, so if I can get it working I'll be ok until I can work up the cash to get the phat system this car deserves.

I will say this you could keep the factory HU, add maybe a 5 channel amp and some decent speakers for less than 800 if you do some research, you'll be surprise of the stuff that you can pick up used from good sources at a real bargain.. Speaking of which there's a PPI Art series 404 (4x50w) that you could pick up for less than 200..

Sure JL is good but not only thing out there.
