Hello everyone, Hoping someone could possibly shed any light on what the issue is with my car. I have a 2.0 TDI 2017 Audi A5 Sport back and last week my start stop white warning message came on my screen saying function not available please contact workshop. Then when on the motorway I noticed that when I put my Cruise Control on it would come on then go off on its own and then not go back on again. When I restarted my car it worked then same happens again with both start stop and Cruise control functions not working.

About 4 weeks ago i had new brake pads fitted by Halfords and no issues until last week (mentioning it in case any issues linked to this).

I was due a major service so booked it in with Halfords on Friday last week and advised them of the issue and from looking online people had suggested it may be my battery so i mentioned this to Halfords. Halfords carried out the major service and did a battery check and said I needed a new start stop battery, so agreed for this to be done, only for 1 minute after driving the same fault came back up. I took it straight back to Halfords Auto Centre who hooked it back up to the BOSCH diagnostic system and they showed me 2 codes that had come up which were

P181C00 - Gear recognition sensor signal improbable
P181B00 - Gear recognition Sensor Electrical Fault

They said that they would clear the faults again but if it comes back up then i would need to take to the Dealers or an approved diagnostic company that can investigate further. I tried Audi but £180 for a diagnostic check then £180+VAT per hour for any labour plus parts but cannot fit me in until Mid January 2024, so i sourced another local diagnostic Garage and booked in for Thursday this week at £72 per hour (said will need 2 hours max to hook up to diagnostics).

Does anyone know what this issue could be or had similar issues on this that can advise what it may actually be, is it a sensor perhaps that needs cleaning or break switch - I am a little lost on what this can be and any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Matt
