You are correct about the mileage part...but it also let Audi lower the entry price on the A5 by nearly USD5k!

And besides, BOTH Car and Driver and Road&Track tested the 2.0T A5 with the Sport Package & 6 speed stick, and found it OUTHANDLED both the S5 & 3.2 A5.

Sounds like a good reason to buy the 2.0T with the Sport Package...which is exactly what I did.

yeah, the engine is lighter, so the car feels more nimble. same is true for the q5, 2.0t. 3.2 is still available on 2011 q5 in s-line prestige trim only. surprisingly, the 2.0t q5 is tow rated to the same 4000lbs as the 3.2.

2.0t can be tuned to make more power than 3.2, ala tts.

interesting articles.i never really thought of the price being lower now that they dropped the v6s but thats a nice touch!

just curious for audi a5sport,how large does the car feel? i know theyre not small coupes by any means,but do they really act their size or like something much smaller?

It does not feel large at all to me. Just the right size to "throw around the roads".

Keep in mind that I have the Sport Package & the 6-speed manual in the car.

As this is my first Audi (and I REALLY love it ), I can only compare it to the SAABs I have owned, and still own. I have two 1990 900 SPGs, and an '03 9-5 Aero sedan, and I can say that the A5 is as close to my SPGs as I have driven. Meaning that with the lowered & stiffened suspension, the car handles like it's on rails. I worked for many years for a major race driving school in the US, and my SPGs spent a fair amount of time on track when the days were over. They were also used as pace cars for many of our race weekends, because the other instructors preferred my SPGs over most any other cars on the property...and there was some pretty nice iron showing up on race weekends.

But this type of ride isn't for everyone. Not the smoothest on lumpy roads...but I'm more than willing to put up with that for the increased grip. On the highway...the car is fantastic. In fact, I'll be taking a 2,500 mile trip with it in about six weeks. Can't wait!

This car has almost the exact same width & length as my ’03 Aero, but feels much smaller when behind the wheel. Probably because it is much lower to the ground, which makes the seating position lower as well, and therefore gets your eyes closer to the pavement.

I also recently had an A4 as a loaner car while my car was in for its first service. Nice car...but definitely NOT an A5. I had considered the A4 S-line at first, but very glad I went with the A5.

thanks for the report! good stuff really...im a huge saab fan too so thats cool about the spgs. i also considered a 9-5 aero before getting into my a4.

im considering a new a4 in the not too distant future (sport package of course),but i dont really have any need for a sedan and the a5 gets more attractive every day.maybe ill have to go to the dealer one of these weekends and spend time behind the wheel of both

I wonder why they do not offer the kick butt TDI's in the US? I checked on the Audi Germany site for A5 Coupe & Sportback and currently they build them with the 1.8TFSI 160hp, 2.0TFSI 180-211hp, a 3.2FSI 265hp. For diesels you can get the 2.0TDI 143/170hp, 2.7tdi 190hp or the 3.0TDI 240hp. Maybe they will put the 3.0TFSI 290hp version that they use in the A6 for the US A5 in the near future?

Default A4 vs A5

A simple answer to your simple question...
The A4 is available as a SEDAN (4-door) with a 2.0 engine. The sedan is also available as an S4 that has a 3.0 V6.
The A5 comes as cabriolet (convertible) or as a coupe and has a 2.0 engine, whereas, the S5 in both those models has the 3.0 V6 engine.
So, very simply, the difference is whether it's a sedan (A4) or a coupe or convertible (A5).

The OP asked the difference between an A4 cabriolet and A5.

The A4 had a convertible version for the b6 and b7 models. Both were available with the turbo and v6's.

I have a 2004 A4 Cabriolet with 223,00 miles. Time to put 'er down. Definitely want to stay with a convertible. Will look at any car in the years 2013 - 2017. Any opinions on going with the A4 or the A5?
