01 2.7T making weird noise when shut off...
My 01 A6 2.7T is making an odd noise when I turn it off. I'm going be that guy that attempts to make the noise now...
It's like a fluttering, winding down noise.... When I first noticed it, I just thought, that's the turbos shutting off, but it's kind of getting louder... It's not making any odd noise at idle or while driving though and I've noticing no power loss or anything of the like.
Am I in trouble?

HUH? Video or sound clip would be helpful to us. My car makes a noise when I switch the ignition off too. Hard to explain. I am not that guy who descibes noises. Just kidding.
Try to get a clip up if possible. Could be a number of things. Good luck

In case anyone wants to know, it was the heater blower fan. I've heard these more in the cabin than from the engine compartment on other vehicles, but I've been assured by an respected import repair shop that this is the issue. I'm told about $500 for parts/labor for repair. Good to know it wasn't the turbos... I was very much dismayed thinking it was them.

What would have been the result of letting this issue go any further? Could any major damage have been done if you had not replaced this? I've got the same noise, and I figured it was the electric fans running after the car is shut off to keep cooling off the turbos. That's what it was on my old Maserati Biturbo, so I haven't given it much thought.

As I said above, the noise (in my case) is the heater fan blower. All parts are apparently confined within the entire blower unit that will be replaced. The only apparent further damage is a louder noise until the heater blower stops working, which is more of a nuisance than a detriment.
I'm getting it replaced this weekend.
