01 a6
I drove an A6 2.7t today absolutely LOVED it. WAY faster then my A4 ever was. the interior WAY better the downside to this was 180k miles so while fun to drive im a littler worried about those miles and thats why I didnt jump on it today. its going for 5k what do you guys think? 180k too much? I dont REALLY want to have to do a lot of matinence down the road and Idk how reliable this engine is.
It depends on how much maintenance has been done and how hard it was driven.
Normally the turbos would need replacement before 180k unless it was driven fairly mellow. (Wife's has 183k) Many other parts could also be near the end of expected life. When was the timing belt last changed? Any maintenance records?
Tip or manual trans? The 2.7t can be boosted to almost insane amounts of power considering it is only is about 165 cu inches. (How fast do you want to go? = How much money do you want to spend?)
Just for info, they DO put the same motor in the A4 body... and they tuned it for more performance!

Common sense: any 8 year old car with 180k miles is going to need work. That's why it's a $40k new car going for $5k. That being said, I'm at 155k and have made relatively few repairs other than alternator, clutch/flywheel, and recently front axle boots. But maintenance is done regularly and she is driven relatively gently, but fast. Sounds to me like the cost of entry is cheap, but the cost to keep playing may be steep.
The a4 was stock. I had it 10 months before it was totaled. that's why im looking at a new car haha. I know that the 180k is common sense, I just wanted to hear about other peoples repairs. the dealer didn't have any history on the vehicle so I decided it wasn't for me. HOWEVER I am definitely considering an A6 now because the interior was lovely in it way more roomy than my A4 was. is the 2.8 the same 2.8 available in the A4? Also its a tip and I wouldnt want to go crazy fast anyways insurance at 19 years old is bad enough if I start getting tickets oh man haha.
