Default 01 A6T shifts early?????

Hey all, I just bought my A6T and it seems to upshift pretty early into 2nd gear. I read in the manual that the car will sense your driving style and pattern shifting accordingly. Admittedly, I accellerate quite slowly - more like a 70 yr old woman would. But occaisionally, I want to show off the speed - problem is it upshifts to 2nd (even in Triptronic mode) at about 1700rpm. Is this normal? Is the car waiting for me to start driving like a 17 yr old? The manual did say that if I floored it - then it would ignore the pattern that it learned at let her run up. Anyone have any light on this topic. Also, what grade octane should I use in this thing?

The octane question has been covered before, but just to recap, get at the very minimum what the manual recommends. This is what the engine is programed to use to keep it from pinging. I'm not sure, but its probably 91 octane gas.

Thanks - sorry for the repeated question - hadn't found the search forum right off. How about the shifting question?
