Default 04 Audi a6 Timing Belt

Hey i recently purchased a 04 Audi A6 2.7T and it has 99K on it. I was wondering what the chances are of the timing belt being replaced once already?

I removed the engine cover and i could not get to the timing belt, and since im no expert as far as assembling / disassembling car parts i did not want to do anything else.

Also, as a side note. When i turn my wheel all the way to the right or left and remove the gas pedal i hear a kind of grinding noise. I checked the steering column fluid and it seems to be ok, so is this my breaks? Because they squeal when i break.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Repair/maintenance history?

There is NO strait answer in your case.
TB could have been replaced once, or not yet teplaced...

Replacement is $$$, but if it breaks => oh my...

One course of action could be:
Initiate complete replacement procedure=> once the front is open and there are clear signs for the condition of ALL components => that could be the time for a decision:
to proceed with the TB replacement or cancel.
Unless you have very positive proof TB has been replaced => just spend $$$ know and go for it.
Will sleep much better…
Good luck,

there are many easy to follow and informative DIYs for the timing belt on this car. I highly recommend reading them first to see if you think its something you could do yourself. If I had to take my a6 to the shop every time I thought I had a problem I would be living out of my car... Good time to start wrenching.

According to the manual, TB needs to be replaced @ 75K. I would strongly recommend to inspect the belt.

You find most DIY tech articles on Audiworld.com. They're organized by category: Engine, Interior, Exterior, Electronics, etc. Good luck.

I can already tell there is no way this guy is going to be able to tackle a timing belt. To the O.P, if you are unsure of timing belt replacement ALWAYS replace. Spend the bucks and get it done . This should have been part of the negotiation or Qand A before you even got the car. People often trade in cars before the timing belt bill.
If it snaps you can throw your car away so spend the coin and git er done .

With a little work you can remove the passenger side cam gear cover and inspect the belt. You will need to remove air tube but its the easiest place to get access. I just bought an a6 2.7t with 88k on the clock and the belt was severly cracked I dont think it would have lasted another 1k its a risky game to play given the cost to repair the damage if it breaks

Many belts look perfectly fine .. until they break .. don't depend on visual inspection.

After consulting with the top experts in their fields, the results are as follows:

Magic 8 Ball = yes
Crystal Ball = yes
ZOLTAR Fortune Teller = no

I will admit, my Crystal Ball has been a little finicky lately.
