My "98 A6 Q with 170,000 miles on it just started doing a couple irritating things. A) The engine starts, surges a bit for 10 seconds then idles OK. However, when I put it in gear and press the accelerator nothing happens, no increase in rpm's etc. Just a "dead" pause. In 5 or 10 seconds it then takes off. I had the temp sensor replace last year due to it not starting. I also installed new plugs, checked the air filter, used some SeaFoam but no change. B) About the same time, when driving and with aggressive acceleration, I can feel it miss. Again, all this started at the same time. I have read on this forum about injectors, jumped timing belts, MAF, etc. I HAVE NOT had any check for codes. I also have not changed the fuel filter. I am assuming the fuel pump is in the gas tank and that the round object attached to the outside of the gas tank is the filter.
Any suggestions???????
