I think my alt. is done but is there any thing else in an audi's charging system??? that may be the problem

Not sure how you are determining the alternator is fried, but if the car is driveable I suggest you take it to an AutoZone (or equivalent) for a free charging system test. If your battery loses a cell, you'll have starting problems. If you need a new alternator, do some google searches for re-manufactured part. An OEM alternator from Audi is about $600 and you can buy rebuilts for ~ $200. I put one in at 75k miles, 63k ago.

When your at AZ ask them how much for a rebuilt alternator.

PS you might have to remove the front bumper to get to the alternator - ask the folks here!
