2.7 T gearing

2.7 T gearing
I have a U.K spec 2000 2.7T Avant.
On the open road the other day I decided to check out the gearing on my tiptronic box. At first I took it upto 100 MPH (about 160 KPH) in Drive and the RPM was showing to be 3000. That to me seemed to be pretty tall gearing. Does that mean, If I could red line in top it would do around 200 MPH .
I also tried a few tip gears.
In 2nd it did 80MPH (128kph)
in 3rd it did 110MPH (177kph)
These sppeds were acheived at just over 6000 rpm.
What do think ?

RE: 2.7 T gearing
I have the tip as well, but for some reason I think my gears are a little shorter maybe like 70 in 2nd and 95-100 in 3rd. I would have to take it out for some runs to confirm this. Maybe i'll take a run at lunch and see..

RE: 2.7 T gearing
In gear 6 at 80 mph I turn 3200 rpm. It used to be electronically limited to 133 mph, but still had plenty of go. I also took it to 133 in 4th and 5th before I figured out it was governed.
I put in a GIAC chip but have not had the opportunity to open it up. If anyone has run a 2.7T 6-speed ungoverned and FWO, I'd like to know how fast you went. I can live vicariously without risking a ticket.

Aerodynamics becomes a huge factor when traveling at such high speeds. To attain 200mph you would need a very low drag coefficient or a hell of a lot of torque at high rpm’s. The only way you could reach that speed in an A6 would be to draft behind someone that has a car capable of reaching 200mph.
You could have fun trying though
