2.7T, 6 Speed or Tip?
Ok guys i'm getting closer to time to buy my a6 2.7T. I'm 19, the car will be my dd, but I also have plans to go stg. 3 within a couple months of the purchase.
So what I'm looking for are opinions on both. How does each respond to mods? Obviously the 6 speed is better for launching but the tip would be good for comfort. Any stg. 3 tips?
Just let me know what you have, what you think, and what you'd rather have.
Edit: I'm assuming the 6 speed would be faster in the 1/4, by how much?
Is one or the other more prone to failure?

It really depends on what you want really. The tip tranny equipped with the 2.7T is no slouch, its been proven it can handle over 400 horse power.
Both of them also have their problems as well, on the automatics the torque converter tends to fail, more precisely the TCC (torque converter clutch) fails.
On the manual of course the clutch needs to be upgraded when going stage III.
New torque converter cost~ $800
New clutch ~$800-$2,000
So what im saying is...............its up to you.
I would go with the 6 speed IMO if you could find it, they're rare over hereon the west coast.

It all depends what you want. If you're a hardcore enthusiast and you're planning on making big mods or just plain like drivin manual then start looking for a 6 because they're scarce and more $$$. But if you're in between and you want to do a few performance upgrades but at the same time you want the simplicity and comfort of the auto, tip is also a good choice...as long as its an Audi. I'm looking for a 02-04 6MT and there's only 2 in the chicago area and they're well over 60k which is my limit. Manual is just plain out fun to drive (unless you're in heavy traffic) so I'ma vote for the standard. Make the best choice.

I have a Tip and love it... wouldnt buy a 6 speed because here in New York we have what people call traffic LOL and it's a bitch if you have 6 speed.... and what is it with all of you 19 yr olds popping out, Im 25 and just got hit on by my 19 yr old audi/bmw mechanic, i have to go out with him a couple of times that's free service and he's damn good...

And the 6MT is not that much faster in the 1/4 mile. I don't know the exact numbers but it's problably around 1/2 a second quicker than the Tip. If you drive them appropiately neither are prone to break down since they're good transmissions. In MT ALWAYS put the clutch as far down as it goes and you'll save a few thousand miles into it.
