2.7t Low Oil Light Appeared then Disapeared
okay... I did a few searches but found nothing... here is what happened.
2002 A6 2.7t - Long trip about 75 minutes average speed was between 80-90 MPH and hit a 100 a couple of times... Near the end of the trip the "Low-Oil" image appeared so I drove very carefully until i got home. Checked the oil and it seemed normal. What could this be?
The satus of the car when this happened
- 72,001 miles
- 1400 miles left until oil change
- Fuel level was just about 1/4 tank
- Windshield washer low indicator was on (keep forgetting to file the damn thing)
No smoke what so ever coming from the car however i did notice a slight smell of burning oil when the heater came on. There is no oil leaking in the drive way and motor looks clean top and bottom...

You did not mention type of oil used. I think the sensor can also give a reading if it thinks the pressure is low. A lot of high speed driving results in very hot oil = less pressure. Make sure you're using synthetic 0W-40. If you are, ignore my post.

Based on my experience, that is no guarantee. I bought a used A4 3.0 MT6 for my daughter which had only been serviced at the dealer. The original owner obtained service records at my request and in reviewing them (and calling the dealer, who had done some warranty work on my A6), I discovered they had used "regular" oil and not synthetic in the A4.

Had the same problem with my '04 2.7t...a couple hours into one of my typical road trips at healthy highway speeds, and my oil light was coming on.
After some research, figured it was probably the oil pressure switch.
My local shop tested my pressure to make sure, and everything tested out great. They replaced the switch during a normal oil change (mobile1 full syn 5w40)...charged me like $30 for the switch with labor to install it...have not had the problem since.
Some may call this the Oil Pressure Sensor...to my knowledge, same thing.

Yep, I bet it is the oil pressure sensor/switch. Seems to be a fairly common issue with the 2.7T, and luckily, a cheap fix.
I would drive 2.5 hours, get a low oil light, pull over and check the oil...fine (if even a little HIGH). Wait 30 minutes for cooldown, still shows fine.

Well i don't own a turbo so maybe i shouldn't comment but why would the car indicated low oil level if the pressure sensor was bad . does the car not have a seperate sensor for oil level ?my 2.8 has a combination sensor going into the sump that monitors oil level and oil temperature. does the 2.7t not have this ?
i would start there if it did.
