2.7T - oh this is going to hurt
I'm hoping someone here can shed some light on what causedthe disaster that caused my 2.7t to start burning massive amounts of smoke, **** oil out of the tailpipes and geyser out of the dipstick tube ... no idea what happened. Car has (had) only 59,000 miles and was babied its whole life. No whine/squeal that would have announced turbo failure ... I'm at a loss ...[sm=smiley35.gif]

2k - thanks for your (depressing) response. Does anyone have any idea of how much something like this can cost ?
Thanks !

You have my sympathies. Your experience is my nightmare.
As long as we're on the subject, are K03's the stock turbo? Then what is the difference going to K04's and K05's - other than obscene amounts of money?

Honestly there is no way to prevent the stock Ko3's from failing. You can postpone it for a while as I did. uncap the boost lines to eachother or to better frase it leave the boost lines open. this will make it so the wasegate stayes open most of the time. you still will make abot 7 lbs of boost because that is what the waste gates are set at but you can see the turbos barly work unless you really hammer on the car. I run 20lbs spike and fall to about 15 on my stock turbos at nost when at the track or I am running the car for fun. so farr so good for me 110,000 miles on stock turbos.
in the end you are best off upgrading when you can to ko4's they hardly ever blow and there is much moer performance there. I have ko4's sitting here for when the time comes

Hey Man..sorry for your misfortune. I might have some good news for you though.....
I had the same problem with my 2000 2.7T with 120K miles. I thought it was the turbos and pulled out the engine myself ( I am a mechanic and have my own shop). After pulling the engine out to replace my turbos I went to the dealer to get a few things I was gonna need (gaskets, seals, etc...small stuff) and one of the techs told me to check "PVC" valve system that audi uses on these cars. He told me that 9 out of 10 of these cars that show the symptoms yours and mine are showing have good turbos and bad "PVC". The part costs $135 and it takes about 1-2 hours to replace. When this gets clogged, the car will start to leak oil thru the turbos. I drained about 1 quart of oil out of each one of my intercoolers....
Look into this before you spend big time and big money in the turbos.

Hi NJ, Good point. It does sound like the situaion is well past a clogged pvc valve, but there is always hope.
I have a 98 A6 and have oil "misted" a little here and there on the engine cover. Car does not burn any oil.Dealer said there was nothing wrong. OK, not really a problem.
Stopped by the corner garage, the guy said the pvc valve is clogged and creating pressure where it should not be. I will change the pvc valve and see if that stops the problem.
