Default 2.8 Engine

I See a lot of post about the 2.8 being slow (I'm looking at a 1999 Avant) but i want to know if it's really that bad or is just slow compared to the rest of the A6 line and other cars in it's class. Also how does the 3.0 engine compare as well Thanks

Slow is relative, as in "compared to what? ". Compared to the 2.7T and the 4.2 it is obviously going to be 'slower'. When you drive, at what rpm does your manual/auto tranny shift... 3,500 rpm or higher?.. then you like "spirited driving" and yes, the 2.8 will feel slow.

If the car you have now up-shifts hardly ever much over 3K and sometimes under, then you drive "conservatively" and the 200 hp of the 2.8 is probably adequate. I have the 2.8 and find it OK, would I like to have the 2.7T, sure, but do I want to pay the extra in lower gas mileage, No...
If you check the listed gave mileage for these 3 engines, they all are rated at about 23-24 hwy, but with 250 + hp I would be mashing the pedal and paying at the pump, and look at the price today !

That's a good point i drive my mom's 07 caravan right now so i guess anything would be better then that but i pretty much do 70-80 in that thing so i'm thinking the avant won't be so bad plus it's only $6200 with 85k on it. Thanks

Compared to a mini van you'll think you died and went to heaven, in any Audi. Doing 70-80 will be no problem in the 4, 6 or 8 cylinder Audis. That's pretty low mileage, what's the year?

This is probably a weird question but for some reason i really hate antennas i was wondering is it possible to replace it with the body colored "shark fin" antennas on the new Audis
