Default 2000 A6 104K mile tune up question

I've got a 2000 Audi A6 2.7T

I brought it in for its 104,000 mile tune up.
The schdule says that I nee to replace my timing belt. My repair shop (non dealer) is telling me that I also should change the water pump and rollers, but I dont see that in the schedule.

Am I getting jobbed here, or should I be replacing the pump & rollers too?
Anyone have any idea what the cost should be?
My guys quited me $1750 for parts & labor (in LA) for the timing belt, water pump, & rollers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

B

Don't know about the price, but he is correct on the parts that should be replaced. Being in NY I was not shocked by the price.

its a case of should I, the strip down of these cars are the most time consuming and the cost is high for labour alone so if you didn't change the water pump when the timing belt was done ( even though it was ok ) its classed as fatigue of parts and the strip down will have to be done again at a cost ( im speaking for the none mechanic ) and the cost could get out of hand

Replace the timing belt, all the tensioners, water pump, thermostat, external serpentine belt, fluid. Blauparts has a complete kit for around $350 (that includes onetensioner which is not part of the basic kit but costs $90) and the job should take 6 shop hours.Your garage may or may not allow you to supply your own parts.

The cost of the parts, other than the one tensioner, is pretty cheap compared to the labor cost to get at them a second time. So while it's open, freshen all the cooling system parts so you know you're good for another 60-100k.

Dont forget the thermostat. My cost was $1500 include all moving part as hydraulic tensioner, all roller, water pump, timing and serpentine belt and Audi coolant replacement in Columbus IN. Parts not cheap, but the laboour is the most dominant on this process. My friend replaced w-pump and a few month later service again
to replace thermostat, the other has an opposite, replaced thermostat and 6 mont later the w-pump. I went to the service with engine overheating at 74K miles but we did all change as I need at 90K miles at my 2000 A6 4.2.

I just did mine,cost-$950.Thats with my mechanic buying dealer parts. If I had bought the kit would have saved &250 to $300.I have only 80k and the tensioner broke loose and water pump was in bad shape also.Guys dont wait for that 105k service to change the belt. That could cost you big.Im in NY.
