Default 2000 A6 on fire

Hi. I had an A6 which I saw smoke coming out of the vent when I was driving. Then I stopped at once and saw the fire in the vent. It became serious and my car was burnt.

Can anyone give me a suggestion what I could do for this situation. Should I report to the Audi? Thanks.

Sound like the headlight switch problem they had/have the recall for.

Audi A6 Headlight Switch Recalled Again
June 12, 2006
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is recalling four types of the Audi A6 from the 1998 to the 2000 model years because a previous recall to fix the head light switch may have been improperly performed.

NHTSA is concerned that the improper installation could lead to an electrical short and fire under the dashboard on the driver's side of the car.

On some Audi A6, A6 Avant, S6 and S6 Avant cars, while attempting the remedial repair for recall 0413000 a plastic cover may not have been securely installed by the Audi technician.

If the cover is not properly installed to the driver's side support crossmember, the headlight switch wiring harness could contact the crossmember and cause an electrical short.

Audi has not provided a remedy or an owner notification schedule but owners may contact the manufacturer at 1-800-822-2834 or call NHTSA 1-888-327-4236.
I received the recall notice shortly after acquiring the car last year, any chance you received it and overlooked it? If not.. definitely call them up.

I didn't get any recall from Audi since I have this car for 3.5 years

I just call the Audi and explain my bad experience. They got my VIN number and some personal information. They told me that they will contact me 2 days later.......

The recall occurred before you bought your car so the last owner would have been notified. It's possible it was completed but fire still happened. There were reports that after the recall was completed cars were still starting on fire from the headlight wiring harness they had just recalled.
