2000 A6 Quttro 4.2L right rear rumble
Single owner, 167,000 miles. Pretty easy driver.
About 2 to 3 months ago started to notice a faint rumble that sounds like it is coming from passenger rear area when accelerating out from a stop up to about 7 - 9 mph. Then no more noise at higher speed irreguardles of acceleration rate. Somewhat more pronounced with taking a left or right from stop, such as turning on a side street from a stop sign.
The noise and maybe vibration (vibration may be my imagination) has been getting more noticeable each week. Now quite obvious unless really slow acceleration.
Sounds similar to driving at lower speeds over the lane edge rumble bumps some roads have.
Otherwise the A6 is in remarkably good shape, have paid enough in repairs over the years to keep it that way.
I just do not want to put a lot more into it as the current market value, given age and mileage, is not that much.
Anyone have any ideas? Am going to take it in for a mechanic "listen" and an "on the rack" look-see. Don't want to be blind-sided by the service shop.
