Quick question. I'm going to look at a 2001 A6 2.7T this afternoon, and I'm not sure what the best way to tell if the car has the Sport Package is. From what I've read, the telltale external sign is the rims: it's a double-set of 6-spoke design, as opposed to the more open design of the standard package. Other than that, is there some way of telling just by looking at something on the car?

You can look at the seats to tell. The sports package will come with different seats. If it has the sports package, they will look something like this (notice how the seams are further apart so there are only 5 sections on the lower part)

 

The best way to tell is to look at the suspension...The sport suspension will have a lower stance, bigger sway bars etc. Look a tthe Gap in the wheel well form the tire...If its only 1" or so, you have the sport package. Put the thing in a corner when you test drive it, and if it feels like your Grandpa's bayliner on wheels you know you dont have the sport package..lol..other way is to run the V.I.N.

There were two different types of sport wheels in 01. The twin spoke the original poster describes and, later in the year, BBS RCs. You could order them as a separate option so don't count on this as your verification.

The sure fire (and easiest) way to tell is the presence of the sport seats. They also have much larger thigh and hip bolsters.

Suspension is lowered by 20mm.

 

Thank you all for your input on how to tell the Sport package from the standard model. Turns out that it is a sport package, confirmed by both the seats (thanks for the picture, voxx) and the presence of the red shocks.

I has the sport package. i didnt know there was one, but i liked it, so i went with that car. now i plain adore it i mean, check those wheels!
