Default 2001 A6 4.2 swap to 6-speed manual?

My apologies for the nature of this post, I did search and could only come up with limited info on this topic. I am mainly a Porsche and BMW guy, but am looking at an A6 4.2 to convert. I know it has been done, and I am contemplating doing this swap on a 2001 4.2 with a blown auto box.

I have access to an RS4's (2007) transmission and rear diff. I am pretty sure this box will mate to the 4.2. Can I use the RS4 diff? Correct me if I'm wrong, but the 4.2 slushbox is 2.73 final drive, while the RS4 is 4.11, so I would have to use the RS4 rear diff to avoid a car that really drives all sorts of messed up!?

As for driveshaft, would I grab a shaft from an A6 2.7T? Likewise for the clutch bracketry, slave and master?

If all this went well, how would I flash the computer for it not to be pissed off that the slushbox is gone? V8 S4 flash?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Bringing this topic back up. I have been thinking more and more about trying to put the 2.7 with 6 speed into the a6 body that has the v8. I figure that the slightly wider and longer wheel base will add some stability, and the enlarged engine bay should make certain inspection and repairs slightly easier. I know that about a month ago someone wrote on their conversion from auto to manual on the v8 but I can't find that thread. Anyone have it bookmarked?

I think this would be the ultimate badass mod. In my minds eye I see that super aggressive body with a built up 2.7 with tial s770s and full RS4 intake system , 2.8 heads, and several other supporting mods then venting to 3" downpipes to twin 2.5 straight pipes.

anyone ever heard of boring out cylinders to a higher displacement and having custom reinforcing sleeves fabricated? I am concerned that if I go to turbos bigger than k04 spool time is going to skyrocket and I love having all that torque right off the bat. I think with slightly higher displacement I should bring spool time down at least a few hundred RPMS by being able to pushing more exhaust against the turbine with each cylinder stroke.

I want to hear yalls wildest ideas about what could be done to turn the 2.7 which can already get beasty into a serious fire breathing monster. Totally hypothetical ideas, no cash limit, ace mechanic available, and no strings attached.
