Just to let everyone know.

I own a 2001 A6 2.7t.

The Part number for my hazard relay is 4B0 941 509 C.

When the stealership looked up the part number for my car, they sold me the 3B0-941-509-J-B98 part. However, this is a 7 pin plug where as my car had a 9 pin design.

I am just letting you all know that you might want to pull the relay and look before ordering a new part.

To the best of my knowledege the pixel fading isn't because of a faulty cluster, just a bad ribbon cable connection. There are some write ups of how to correct this but they involve taking apart the entire cluster and some fine soldering. I have been practicing my electrical soldering skills and soon I want to attempt the fix.
