2004 A6 - Rear deck lid removal?
#2
On older models (mine is a 95) you have to dismount the speakers first (3 Phillips head screws on the underside, accessed from the trunk), then you just pull/slide it toward the front seats. The seat belts should not be a problem. However, you have to take off the head restraints.
Unless they changed the design drastically, it should be pretty similar and easy to remove the deck.

Something like this:
After the speakers are removed, then it is held "in place" only by three plastic clips you can actually see while you are in the trunk. They poke through the holes, so you should be easily able to see them and pop'em.
As said before, then the deck should slide right on without any obstructions:
Good luck.
