2006 A6 Quattro w/2.4l ?
I just bought a 2006 A6 (yesterday). It is my first Audi and I did enough research to be comfortable making the purchase. It is a one owner car w/ a clean Car Fax with all the maintenance. After I got it home and started checking fluids, playing with the MMI and just basically "geeking out" on my new toy, I noticed the plastic protective cover on the front of the motor said "V6 2.4" In looking at the original sticker, it says 3.1l. This made me very curious so I started looking around for 2.4 liters and I can't seem to find any in the US. I don't mind having a 2.4l (although I would prefer the bigger motor) but I want to make sure I got a "straight" car. I understand that is a simple piece of plastic that can be pulled off easily and may have been (the other cover with the Audi symbol has a big crack in it). Does anyone know if the 2.4 A6 Quattro was a standard car in the US? Is there anyway I can check to make sure this motor is the original? Is there anway I can tell if it is a 3.1l? I still have about 5k on the original warranty and want to get a service done, and I am worried this may not be the original motor which would make me very unhappy..
Any advice anyone has would be very helpful!
Thanks!

The 2.4 was offered over seas and I dont think it was offered with quattro. Never in the USA. 3.2 is the base engine here in the US. My guess is that since they are the same engines(smaller displacement is the only difference), a new cover was ordered for the engine, and they got the wrong one somehow. Your car would be a 3.2 Quattro. Technically, it is a 3.1 because its like 3143cc or something, but Audi calls it a 3.2. Now Im guessing here, but my 01 2.8 has the engine code stamped onto a flange on the head, ATQ. Check for that and look up the code, will tell you right away what engine you have. Good luck, hope you get to the bottom of this.

And the answer is..
it is a 3.2. 2001A6 was right - Thanks! - I took it to the dealer this morning and they confirmed it was a 3.2 They assumed that a new plastic cover was ordered and the wrong one shipped. The 2.4 one fit so they just put it on. I am feeling much better now. Thanks for the advice out there!!!
