My 2008 A6 had the finish fail on the brushed frame around the gear selector boot and indicator. I have the replacement piece, but can't find any information that tells me if I have to take the console out to replace that part or if it can be done while leaving the console in place.

If it can be done without removing the console, is it just a matter of popping the boot, popping the gear indicator, then popping the frame out?
