I would try both and test how it feels... for me 2.8 174 hp is enough and it eats less gas than 4.2 (who told you about the same mpg?).

This is true. Actually, the 2.7 is spec'd at 24MPG and the 4.2 is 25. The 4.2 is cheaper to maintain but both require egular preventive maintence. I like them both for different reasons.

stock, the 4.2 and 2.7 will get roughly the same gas mileage i believe......Maintance wise, the 4.2 is cheaper and if thats what you are concerned about it is for you. 4.2 or 2.8 will have the least maintance costs in my opinion.

The real question is are you going to be satisfied with 300hp or are you going to need to add additional hp later on via modifications?

The naturally aspirated will of coarse be much more reliable due to a much less compicated design. However, you cannot do much in the way of adding hp. The 2.7T on the other hand will require a closer watch and a looser wallet to keep reliable but you will be able to get much, much more power out of it.

The only other option is to get the 2.8 and supercharge it (300hp). The only real reason to do that however is if you are dead set on an avant cause it'll end up costing you a few extra thousand to go that route.

If you are going to stay stock go with the 4.2; it is a better performer, more durable and less expensive to maintain. If you are going to mod go with the 2.7t; there are more mods available and once moded it is a beast. If you have money to burn get the 4.2 supercharged.

thanks fellasforthe replies, and i've made up my mind, i will go with the 4.2 engine,im planning on staying stock so i dont mind if theres no mods for it,300 hp is more than enough, but how much more hp will a modded 2.7 get i wonder?

You will not regret the 4.2. Good choice.
