4.2 a6 vs s6
I know there is only about 40 HP difference in the two models. I'm just wondering where the s6 gets it from.
Can I just swap cams and get a chip? Or does the s6 have more compression? I don't want to spend 8k on a PSA l, but p would love to be able to squeeze 40 more HP out of this motor. (without loud exhaust)

I don't know... fairy dust? But seriously, I know for sure that the S6 has 11 to 1 compression ratio, but I don't know for sure for A6. But I seriously think it is just the tuning plus some exhaust.

Realistically, 20hp isn't a large enough difference to worry about spending big money on. Even if you found out it was a cam, I wouldn't do all that work for 20hp. Exhaust would be the next most likely source, but if you don't want to alter that, then I'd just chip it and leave it. Anything beyond that (cam or headers if they're available) would be big money and a custom tune (more money), so you'd be in the hole another $1000+ or so for 20hp. Just put that money towards a built torque converter - from what I understand, you'll need it even at stock power levels.

12.5 HP for K&N??? Are you sure about that? I seems awfully high.

valve seal job or issue??
Hey guys,
I recently submitted a thread regarding smoke coming out of my exhaust and asked about leakage past the piston rings. I got some replies suggesting a compression or leak down test first to determine whether it was a premature ring failure issue or not.
I just recently got some other input from someone saying it might be a valve sealing problem and that a compression or leak down test wouldn't matter ( but i guess it wouldn't hurt to do it anyway ), but my question is, how much does a valve job generally cost ( if that is the issue ) for a car like this? Could it be done while doing the timing belt? Any help in this area would be great.
Again the smoke coming out of my tailpipe is more on the white side but it usually only happens for the first 20 seconds or so after I start the car up. there is a odor to it but i can't make it out. It does not smell sweet like antifreeze, so I don't know.
Thanks
