Default A4 vs. A6 please help!!!!

What do you guys think what would be a better buy?
a 2003 a6 3.0 with 105k for 7000
or a 2001 a4 2.8 with 120k for 6000

i am having a really hard time deciding, especially considering the maintenance

please help!!

thank you

The A6 & A4 are possibly in need of a timing belt change. Find out if they have been done 1st, before anything else.

2nd, the 3.0 is more expensive to own/maintain.
3rd is the 3.0/2.8 quattro or fwd. If fwd it might have a cvt which is VERY bad

If the 3.0 needs a timing belt expect 2500-3000k
If the 2.8 needs a timing belt expect 900-1400k

both cars will be due for shocks and control arms

And, what's the purpose of the car? I wanted an S4 until I saw how small the back seat got with a couple car seats in it.

the 2.8 is awd

so in terms of keeping the car in shape the a6 would be more expensive overall?

Meaning the A6 3.0 is FWD? If so BIG SKIP, don't even waste your time/money on a CVT. There are two things I have learned over the years of Audi ownership, I would probably never buy a 3.0 and I would definitely never buy an Audi CVT.

If you want an A6 they made in 98-01(2?) the A6 2.8 and you could always get the 4.2 or 2.7 but the 2.7 comes with it's own set of issues.

Both cars will be reliable (by Audi standards). Find out about the timing belts and figure out if you want a larger or smaller car.

The A4 will be cheaper in the long run simply because of the extra costs associated with the 3.0 service. But that is the only reason the A6 will cost more.
