A6 2.4 V6 misfire

A6 2.4 V6 misfire
I have a 98 A6 2.4 V6 with a misfire that my local audi specialist cannot fix.
His computer gave a fault on the Hall sender - changed and cleared fault but not misfire.
Plug leads replaced - no change
Engine pops on acceleration below 2500 revs and fuel economy dropped from 30 to 23 mpg.
This happened suddenly just after Audi had the car in to replace front discs and pads.
Not suggesting they caused it but problem was evident when vehicle was collected.
Awating a £100 Audi diagnosis.
Any ideas out there ?
