A6 2.7T Q - dies after 15-20 min idle or driving
Hi All..
I need help... I have a 2001 A6 2.7T Quattro. This car dies every 15-20 min at idle or while I'm driving. It would take about 30-40 min than it starts up fine. During that time, it would not crank over.
I've replace fuel filter, spark plugs (NGK), ECT, Battery, Alternator and about to replace the Engine Speed sensor.
I'm thinking it's the fuel pump is the main cause. I have not test the fuel pressure test yet after it die but it is the next item on the list.
What do you all think it can be?

Check the fuel pressure as you are planning to. Should be around 40 psi (3 bar) plus minus a couple at idle.
Do you have CEL on?
Also can you elaborate a little on not starting after it shuting down? So when you turn the key, it doesn't crank? Do you have all of your dash lights on? If it is not cranking, and you don't hear anything click, i.e. solenoid, or relay, as in dead quiet... I am going to be far out and say check the ignition switch. It maybe shorting from overheating and reconnecting after cooling down.

Thanks everyone for responding.. Here is the latest.
There are no codes. If I waited for about 1/2 hr, the car will crank over and run fine for about another 15-20 min and dies again.
After it died, I disconnect the fuel line and try to crank it, there were no fuel coming from the line. I'm looking into the Fuel pump Relay or the fuel pump itself.

Okay, I thought that it was not cranking over at all. Anyways, with that said, you are probably right that it is either the pump or the relay. BTW, where did you disconnect the fuel line. If you disconnected the fuel line before the regulator, then you know for sure that it is pump or the relay. Otherwise you have just a bit of doubt, but I still agree with you that it will most likely be your pump or the relay.
