Default A6 3.0 timing belt break/compression

I had a water pump lock up and eventually demolish the idlers and strip the timing belt. Has anyone had a belt break that DIDN'T bend valves? I positioned the #1 cam lobes upward, put a hose in spark plug hole and blew as hard as I could and lost no pressure. I repeated this on all holes on that side and still couldn't blow through to intake or exhaust. So, my question is...If a valve is bent shouldn't I be able to blow past it into the intake manifold or exhaust?? Does the throttle body close off so tight that I cant blow past it?
Any ideas???

Unless you have Superman's lungs, you won't be able to build enough pressure to give a definitive answer to your question "did I bend my valves" using lung power alone. Good idea, though, and an indication that you may be alright. You need a leak down tester to do the job right.

But, yes, you can break a timing belt and not bend valves but this rarely happens, I hope you are one of the rare cases.

Good luck,

Bob

OK it gets even more interesting. I performed a compression test and had almost nothing on 5 out of 6 holes so I removed all timing components and began to test compression by rotating cam lobes upward and testing every hole. Same thing. almost no compression. So at this point I'm pretty sure I bent the valves. So after getting over about 3 weeks of bad attitude I pulled the heads and what did I find? nothing! All valves are straight as can be. I had the valves checked at the machine shop and everything is good. Anybody have any ideas as to why I lost compression? My thoughts are I let the engine sit too long and the valve carbon may have solidified. I know the air was escaping past the valves because I poured alcohol down the head at the intake valves and I could blow through the sparkplug hole and watch lots of bubbles come out of the valves.

How are you testing the compression? Are you using any gauge? Or are you just blowing?
