Default A6 4.2 HID burnout

I have a 2004 A6 4.2 with the passenger side HID headlamp not working. I called the dealer and they want over $200 for the bulb and then they say they have to install it as well. That means I will be walking out of there with a $300 light bulb. What can I do? Can I do it myself? Can I buy the bulb somewhere else cheaper? HELP!!!

Thanks to any and all responders.

Yes yo ucan do it yourself, if you search this forum about HID's or Xenon lighting you'll find the info you need. The bulb itself will be lower than what the dealer quoted you. All you have to do is search on google or yahoo with the subject of Audi A6 Head light bulb and it should give you information on the type of bulb, unit set up and so on. From here you can search the type of bulb to locate the right price for you. Remember you get what you pay for.

I had the same problem. I found 2 new Phillip D2S (the bulb style) xenon bulbs 4300K (which is the stock color) for $75.00 shipped on ebay. They work fantastic. Took about 10 minutes to install. Remember to not touch the bulb with your bare hands when installing.
