Default A6 4.2L Quattro- Struts

Looking for front struts- not coilovers for this 120K+ mile sled...and its making me pretty crazy. Car has factory sport suspension.

Biggest problem is that most retailers and even some of the manufacturers list one part number for most or all A6 configurations, or list Passat part numbers.

This isn't satisfactory to me- I know the A6 and Quattro provide different weight on the front end than a 4 cyl A6 or Passat, and the sport suspension is supposed to be valved 30% stiffer on rebound dampening. So the one-strut-fits all just because it will bolt in, doesn't make me very happy.

Bilstien has HD and sport, but sport is much shorter and fit for lowering springs, also listed as discontinued by many retailers. Also, many catalogs list notation *not for 4.2L.

Koni FSD are ony in a set of 4..I'm only doing the fronts.

Sachs/Boge is not app specific anymore..
Spax has no application, KW just with coilovers, other Euro brands tough to obtain and too much to ship & pay exchange rate.

I'm thinking of just going with a strut for a Passat W8 with sport suspension, that seems to be listed by some (like Sachs) as its own part number.

Any educated input from vendors or installers?

You should get the Audi part number from the Audi dealer parts department, and search each web site for that part number. You may have to get these sports struts from the dealer. Also, try www.vagcat.com for finding the part number. However, this site is for the european models.

Thanks for the tip on getting the right part number, that should help.
I was trying to use what I found on the web, but some of the vendors have four or five sites/portals so running their inventory number gets more of the same, with the same erroneous messages about spring perches and yes/no with respect to QUattro, 4.2 applications and the need for spring perches.

I did look at KYB- the cheap price is what originally got me going on this...and I even corresponded with the manufacturer and they do list one part for all suspensions and engine/drivetrain combinations. I came across one post complaining of nose-high profile after the GR2s, which stands to reason wtih the monotube and if it wasn't designed for sport susp.

Shokan doesn't list anything in A6 for 2002, I know one Audi dealer was selling at close to wholesale online but can't find it/remember it.

Update....A6 database said "no replacement part"
2002 Passat 4 motion listed several OEM struts- one of which for sport setup is the same partnumber.
Kerfuflfle.

Also, figured what the heck, if I'm looking at factory spec'd stuff, might as well check RS6 part.....250 Euro, yikes.

The dealer was unable to provide a part number?

How about just buying the part from the dealer?

I found one online dealer...and then lost the link.
THe provided a Boge replacement part number, and when I looked it up it was the same as the Passat standard suspension. I meant to call a local dealer this week, they are closed on weekends.
Can anyone refresh my memory of dealers that have parts catalogs online?
