Default A6 Avant hatchback wiper

My rear decklid wiper is faulty - moves in jumps in both directions as if a geartooth is partly stripped. The arm is solidly parked when it's off, and there's no looseness in it. The squirter works fine, so all the electrical side looks good. But not the motion of the blade.

I wonder if it's worthwhile trying to repair it, what a 3d-party/used part might cost, and can I reasonably do it with ordinary tools, and what are the risks of breaking something $$$? I think I could get access by removing two small screws at each side of the inside cover but I'm not going to try this without knowing where I'm going with it???? Thanks in advance for any info.

Your definatly on the right track with the linkage issue. As you suspect your gonna have to get in there to see exactly whats going on. There should be a hidden screw under each of the hanle slots. The only thing holding the panel on from there are a bunch of really tight spring clips. You should be able to pry the edges away from the body to see the clips. You make break one or two but theres a bunch holding it on so a couple broken ones isnt anything to worry about.

i've replace the rear wiper motor in my 2001 avant. It's pretty easy...to swap it out. It's a $100 part. The hard part is getting the rear manual sunshade out....in order to get the rest of the rear hatch panel to pop off. I have some pix that I can send you. Drop me an email.
