Default A6 C5 4.2 transmission issue please help

I got a A6 2002 4.2 with Tiptronic Transmission. It has 85000 mls. Having some transmission issues, One morning it began shifting rather hard, giving me a jolt forward.
It felt like the gear did not engage foe a moment and the car went in to the limp mode. I turned the car off and started it again and the car was back to normal mode but with the hard transmission and the ocational grar slip.
Is it a transmission issue or TCM, should I get the filter and oil changed or is it some thing big.
Any help please thanks.

How is the fluid level? Is there any water/moisture on the floor under the front seats?

Changing the fluid/filter is always a good idea when your transmission is in good health. But when you have problems, well, there is more risk. I personally would do it.

I took the car to a nearby Jiffy lube and they told me to take it to an Audi dealer as the car needs some kind of special oil.
Will take it there tomorrow lets see what they have to say about it [&:]

There are some excellent write-ups on how to do the change. You can get the stuff yourself from the Audi Dealer, and have your local indy do the work..

http://www.audipages.com/Tech_Articl...servicing.html

You need a filter, new gasket, and about 8l of VW/Audi tranny fluid.

Read the post I linked to at audipages- pretty comprehensive..

Cheers-

I had the same problem wih my 2000 4.2. Audi dealership didn't know what was wrong with it unless they took the trans apart. I bought an extended warranty with my car and my trans is being replaced as Audi could not find the problem. Good luck with yours and definitely let us know what you find out about yours. oh yeah, mine has 70k on it, not sure if that matters.

I was just going to post about a similar issue which I've noticed recently.
I have a 2002 4.2 with 52k miles. I have had it serviced regularly and drive it hard (isn't that why we all buy 4.2's and 2.7t's anyway?)
Mine revs up to about 3-4k RPM but yet isnt going over 20 MPH...I floor it, then all the sudden the car takes off. Its as if the trans isn't catching. It has occured in the morning right out of the driveway but also yesterday after about a 16 mile drive.
I'm having looked at by the Stealership this weekend. Here's hoping I don't get my pants pulled down over the price.

I took my car to the Stealership and found out there were clutch peaces in the fluid and I need a new transmissin.
With 1000 dealership discount it was 6200 $

I got my transmission rebuilt by another shop with 12000 ml/ 12 month warranty for 1700 $ installed and it works fine now

I know this thread is super old but did the shop say what was wrong in the end? Just burnt out clutch discs? Cause I'm just about to tear mine apart. Doing a full rebuild.
