Default A6 in my future

Hello everyone. Newbie here and hopefully a soon to be owner of an A6. I've been reading the forum tonight and for the most part it sounds like a great car to own. I'm looking for a 02-03 with about 60,000 - 70,000 mile on it. I was wondering if you have any advice for me. Is there any problems with the engines, AWD, etc. Also what does everone prefer, 2.7, 3.0. AWD, 2WD etc. Any help you give me will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hey, can't wait to see what you end up with, but it really depends on what your looking for. The 2.7t is the best for tuning, stock 250hp, but with chip, exhaust, and a few other mods can get it up to the 330hp. Then you can upgrade the turbos to Ko4's (STAGE III) and get about 450hp. Thats only about 40hp less than a V-8 ferrari F430, but cost about 1/3 the price... On 100octane race fuel you will get over 500hp! The 2.7t is a little less reliable than the 3.0 however. The 3.0 is nice, but if you don't mind paying a little *maybe alot* more on repairs then the 2.7t is the way to go.

However consider the 4.2, not too sure about repairs and reliablility, but the car has wider wheel flares and door blades. The 4.2 is by far the best looking of the 4 engines availible in the a6 model

I've checked out some more info and it really looks like the timing belt is a big one. Need to make sure that is changed.

So you're saying the 3.0 is more reliable and the 2.7 is more costly for repairs?

If you don't mind the added cost/maitenace go with the 2.7! After buying my 2.8 (n/a) I now regret not getting a 2.7 although as stated it is a bit more reliable since you don't have to worry about replaceing various parts for that could cost big $$. Please read the sticky on top of the A6 fourm titled "tips.....new 2.7 owner". Also do yourself a favor by going with the quattro, its one of the many reasons most of us bought an Audi in the first place.
