Default A6 Performance mods

I just got a hand me down A6 (from my wife) in excellent shape. I'm planning on keeping this car for many years to come and am wondering when it comes to performance modifications where is the best place to start/best bang for the buck. Any ideas or suggestions? I'm thinking rims and tires to start with.

ummm...

year? engine?

for looks/performance go with suspension (springs, sways) first, then do wheels/tires.

performance chip gives you best bang for your dollar without any major modifications. then depending on what motor you are working with you can go seriously broke trying to make a go-fast

oh yeah, 2004 A6 with a 3.0. my bad.

I think I'm more interested in how it drives. There's plenty of road to get up to speed in it. I don't really want to go broke doing this (laugh here......) but I expect to put some money out to have a better handling car. So you think sway bar and springs are a good starting point?

Forget engine mods with the 3.0. If you are closing in on 85k, consider replacing the timing belt and related hardware (do a search; lots of info in forum). Replacing all the filters, brake fluid, and differential is probably a good maintenance move. Suspension kits and ceramic brakes are a plus. Since it goes 133 mph, you want some serious binders in case a moose jumps out in front of you. Read up on tires in the forum -- it's generally a religious discussion or opinion.

I just did the 75k timing belt/filter visit so the maint. should be good for awhile.

Best performance mod for that car is trading it in on a performance car. Otherwise, love for what it is: a German Buick. Nice, comfortable, unreliable, staid and boring. Don't frustrate yourself trying to make it something its not.

You can build it to be one of the most serious sports cars on the street. Use mine as an example... But you need a 2.7T...
