I am a new member to Audiforums, not too technical, and could not find a post related to my question. My 2007 A6 4.2 has 108,000 miles and has been well-maintained. Recently, all of a sudden, it started running really rough, as if all 8 cylinders were not firing. My local tech said that it is probably the cam adjustor, but that he would have to pull out motor to confirm and quoted me $4-6K to fix. I could tow 100 miles to dealer to validate. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks!

Thanks Jackmup! Engine runs very rough, like only 6 or 7 cylinders are firing. I forgot to ask mechanic for codes displayed - will do so tomorrow.
