A6 tachometer issue

A6 tachometer issue
All,
I have an 2000 Audi A6 2.7T. As I accelerate, the tachometer needle will slightly jump and fall 50-150 RPM while I am in the same gear. It is little more than a nuisance, and I can't actually feel the difference when the engine revs but it makes me a little uneasy. I have been having an issue in first and second gears primarily.
I had the spark plugs, fuel filter and air filter replaced, but it did not take care of the problem as I had hoped. Any thoughts??
Thanks in advance.

RE: A6 tachometer issue
avant80@2.6,
I am fairly new Audi owner. This may be stupid, but what is a VSS sensor and where is it located, any help would be appreciated. I would like to check your suggestion ASAP.
Thanks,
