This started recently. When I start my car about half the time the ABS light comes on and the Brake light starts flashing, it also beeps three times. Again it's only about half the time I start my car, it has also done it while driving about 4 times.

The brakes continue to work fine, the fluid level is fine.

Any clue what it might mean?

The 3 beeps with the brake light flashing usually indicates low brake fluid. The fluid level will drop naturally as the pads wear down. The fluid level sensor may be faulty or have a bad connection.

 

ABS light on means a malfunction in the ABS system, your condition is intermittent, bu I would still have it checked by a brake specialist. As "daroshi" said, top off your brake fluid, it may look full, but it's not. When ever my Brake light came on while either braking quickly or cornering, the level dropped a bit and tripped the light. Topping up the brake fluid fixed it every time.

 

If your ABS light is on and your brake light flashing it indicates that the ABS pump is faulty. You will need to replace or have your existing one rebuilt. Very common on a lot of A6s.
