Default adaptive cruise control

I'm currently looking to order a new A6. Wondering if anyone has any experience of adaptive cruise. Is it worth the £1500? Does it work as well as it sounds? I do a lot of motorway miles - Thinking it would make life so much more relaxed.
Cant seem to find any cars with this option specified so think it might be just an expensive toy that's useless in the real world. Didn't want to waste my money on something that doesn't work out on the roads.

Any advice???

Thanks in advance.

Another member here picked up a used A8 with the adaptive cruise and absolutely loves it. It will take you down to a complete stop if it has to and mimic the movement of the cars in front of you... like in stop and go traffic.

Specially in the traffic jams with all the stops and starts.

The car in front of you stops and you stop too without applying the breaks yourself.
When he takes off you take off too depending on the distance you have configured.

I was skeptical at first and had my foot above the break just in case but to my delight it wasn't necessary.
