advice on buying a 2000-2002 A6 wagon?
I'm looking it to buying a used A6 wagon. There is a 2001 Quattro wagon 2.8 in my area with 74km in good condition for $14k. Does this seem like a reasonable price, and what should I look for in the line of things that will need to be replaced soon? How long so the exhausts last? The timing belt will need to be replaced soon. I'm a decent mechanic and I'm wondering how tough a job it is on this vehicle? What else might probably need attention soon that is going to cost me some coin? I'm new to Audi's and any advice would be much appreciated.

The timing belt isnt too bad. You will need a cam bar to get the cams lined up again. Personally i think its the easiest of the timing belts to do. As far as comon problems- tie rods, upper links, cam seals leaking oil, dis in instrument cluster going out, drivshaft seals leaking. How long an exhaust last depends greatly on where you live. Dry and warm, maybe forever. Cold and wet, maybe a couple years. As far as price i would check a book value somewhere, and compare to other cars in area for sale and maybe some cars on the internet.

I've got a 2000 A6 Avant W/ around 80K miles on it. Picked it up in August '04 when it had 68K on it - paid $14K + T/L.
Still need to do my belt, but I don't rust my mechanical abilities enough to do it myself.
Where are U at?
I'm in So Cal.
