Default Is All season tire needed on the A6 4.2 Quattro in San Francisco weather?

To those who are not familiar with San Francisco weather, we have very Dry summer and very wet winter.
I currently have the Yokohama AVS 255/40WR-17 on my 2000 A6 4.2. I haven't driven these tires in the wet winter yet, I am not quite sure how they will perform. I got about 3/32 left on these treads, so I am thinking about getting a new set of tires. Any recommendation for a new set of tires? Do I need all weather tires for the wet season? Or a set of Summer tires on the Audi quattro will do just fine in wet season?

Your feedback is appreaciated!

It all depends on whether or not you anticipate seeing snow and how cold it gets.

Winter tires are different from summer tires by virtue of two things: tread pattern (wide open to allow the snow to release with each rev), and rubber compound (softer to offset the hardening that results from lower temps). All seasons are a compromise between summer and winter tires.

I'd suggest giving Gary at www.tirerack.com a ring. I've worked with him and he's very knowledgable. He'll probably recommend an all season or a summer tire that has good wet weather performance.

Good luck.

I had Bridgestone KDW series 2's on my old car and they were fantastic in both wet and dry conditions. Plus, they look really friggin cool!

as long as it isn't going to snow up there, those should be fine. They are a bit noisy, at least they were in my Sentra, but I am sure the Audi will have better sound dampening.

Well, I am not likely to drive on snow since it doesn't snow in San Francisco in winter, however, there is usually a lot of rain.
The Michelin Pilot Sport A/S is $212/ each (All season)
BF Goodrich G-Force Sport is $113/ each (Summer tire)
Yokohama AVS is $110/ each (Current tire).

Michelin all season costs twice more than other summer tires. Is it worth the money? Or Summer tires with Quattro works just fine?

I live in upstate New York where we get the full weather spectrum on anything from a 4 lane interstate to dirt back roads. I put on a set of the BF Goodrich Traction T/A's H rated on my A6 Quattro and so far I have been real happy with them. They come with a 60k tread wear warranty

Thanks for the recommendation. I will take a look into those tires.
I have driven a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant GTZ in the snow storm in NJ and NY last year. It was a lot of fun, but of course the road got really dirty when the snow melted.
