Default Another A6 iPod Qustion

Hello, I've been browsing these forums for a little while now but I have not posted very much. I recently purchased my first car, a 2004 Audi A6 2.7t. The car has an in-dash 6 CD changer and Sat radio, without the Bose system. I believe it is the Symphony II system.

What I am trying to find out is the most affordable way to wire in an iPod to the stereo. I would like to keep my CD changer, however if it is cheaper to disable the Sat radio this can be done, as I do not plan to pay for a subscription. I would like to attempt to build a mount in the in-dash cup holder, or if that proves too difficult, in the center console or glovebox. If I can manage an install into the cupholder (directly above the stereo), then control through the car buttons is not needed. I have done alot of research and I am very confused about my options.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks.

This is a post from a guy on here who put a Denson I-pod kit into his A6, this kit was a denson which in my opinion are the best. A frend of mine has one in a BMW 7 series and my dad has one is his C-class and they work with the origenal head units and stering controls.

I found it via this site which is very useful for the A6 owner who does not want to spend money/time in the steelership

This is a post from bostondriver who is on here and well worth talking to. He really knows his stuff. In this post he moded a coin draw to take a Lazer jammer remote display. this could give you some options when it come to moding the dash for the I pod.

Thinking about it why not try to have the I pod in the coin draw tha that way it is out of site?

Hope this helps
good luck
James

PS if you are in the USA Denson pulled out of the US market do you will have to source the kit from over seas or buy on ebay.

On my car instead of the coin drawer, there is a cupholder there. That is the place I was thinking about attempting to put the ipod dock. That article will probably be helpfull when i try to do that. However, what I am trying to find out mainly is the specifics of the compatability. Would I be able to keep my CD changer/ sat radio? Would I need an additional harness or something?

Thank you for your help

For example, if I purchased this:
http://www.amazon.com/i-Audi-r-Integ...491&sr=1-3

Would there be an open port for me to connect it? How would this work with my existing in-dash CD changer and sat radio?

Or maybe this?

Mattmoo, Ithink that if you installed any I pod kit then there should be no problem with the in dash changer, I have seen in dash changers working with another 6 CD in the trunk also. I am not sure how the dice kit would wire in. I guess it would be in a similar way to the Denson one and I know that they allow you to keep a 6 disc in the trunk and have the Ipod kit on the dash. I am not sure about the sat radio

The cup holder you could change for a coin draw and adapt that to take the ipod. I am guessing you car has ESP, the coin draw is where that is in car that are not equipped with ESP.

Hope this helps
James

Be careful with Dension, unless you buy their products from an Authorized reseller, they will not warranty them. My Dension Icelink died after maybe 6 months and they would not warranty it since they said too many knock offs are being sold in the US. If you look for resellers in the US, there are none. So basically if you buy one in the US, there is no warranty. After much arguing with their Hungary home office (the only place that can support US products, their Canadian office will not), they agreed to send a new wiring harness for $90.00 dollars. Obviously that is not worth my time.
In the end, I bought a Phatbox.

I purcased and installed this:

There are no controlls other than the iPod, however it sounds great. The SAT radio no longer works, however the CD changer still does. THe next thing I would like to do is try to find the coin tray or something to finish this mod.

So you have to give up your SAT radio....How is the ipod kit working for you? Do you see any cables? It looks like you are using IPOD to control everything instead of MMI. Is that correct? Thanks

Matt has a C5, not a C6.As a result he does not have MMI. With the C6 you get to keep the satelite radio and also get the ipod. You also get to control it all through the MMI. There have been a couple of posts comparing the AMI with the Denison on the C6.

It works very well like I expected. And yes, the SAT radio is gone and you controll the music with the iPod. My only complaint is that the SAT radio screen still shows up on the stereo when using it.
